The helmet was in a factory box and appeared to be new, but it had dark grease like spots in several places, from nickel to dime size, that would not come off with simple rubbing or a damp cloth. They finally started to fade with Goo Gone and quite a bit of rubbing. I was able to remove most of it, but some around the vents and front label are still visible.I should return it on principle, but it will be scuffed up soon anyway. But it shouldn't be like that new out of the box. Seems good otherwise so far.
