After reading and comparing reviews with the variety of impact shorts available on the market, I took a plunge and made the purchase of these shorts from Amazon for a snowboarding trip. The hillbilly impact shorts that I actually received does not reflect the hideously colored shorts amazon has misrepresented, as the shorts are actually black in color. What a relief!! I wear a 31-32 waist and followed the size chart which designated a size small. The fit of the small, was snug at the waist, not too loose or tight with a thin thermal under. The thigh cuffs have elastic material in them to stretch across the outer diameter of your thigh, since my thigh's aren't big the thigh cuffs for the shorts were free floating which isn't entirely detrimental to the overall purpose of the shorts. Unlike other designs out there, I never once had to realign the shorts due to any shifts in the padding material under my pants. The padding initially may appear to be bulky, but let me tell you these pads...Read more

For whatever reason, protective gear seems to be made for people who are really small, or already in shape. What's a big guy to do?
I started skating with my kid to get in shape, but when big and tall guys fall, they get hurt! I trolled around various hip and butt protectors but found nothing for above a size 38 or 40 waist. I'm a 44.
Enter these Hillbilly Butt Pads. I wasn't hopeful, but did some digging to try and find a sizing chart. Well, here it is from the manufacturer MBS Mountainboards. Find them at:

Here's the sizing chart from their online store
" Sizing Chart:
X Small: 27-31 inch waist
Small: 32-36 inch waist
Med: 37-41 inch waist
Large: 42-46 inch waist
We recommend that hip pads fit a bit tight as it is important for the pads to not move around when riding or during a crash...Read more

I've worn my pads for most of this season, and I can't imagine how I survived without them. I've tried butt pads by several other companies, and these are by far the absolute best. They do make my behind significantly larger, but as a blocker, that's a plus. The tailbone protection is outstanding, and I haven't had a bruise on my hip since I've started wearing these.
They run very large. Normally I'm either XL or XXL in most butt pads, but I take L in these. Also, as others have mentioned, they're blacker than the photo depicts. Lastly, the fabric under the padded parts is see-through mesh, so be ready to wear opaque tights or shorts underneath.
If you like looking vaguely like Godzilla or a hand grenade on the track, these pads also look pretty cool. I feel like someone from Mad Max every time I gear up nowadays.
